Dyer Island Conservation Trust

South Africa

The Dyer Island Conservation Trust works to conserve and research the fragile and critically important marine eco-system at the southern-most tip of Africa. They strive to protect the largest surviving colonies of the endangered African Penguin whose numbers are at an all-time low; the globally important breeding and calving grounds of the Southern Right Whale; and, the world's densest populations of the vulnerable Great White Shark.

ECOMAR

Belize

With a mission to inspire learning and conservation ethics through outreach programs, hands on participation and research, ECOMAR is a conservation organization in Belize with multiple engagements in conservation, including their St. George's Caye Research Station & Field School with supports archaeological and marine research. They also have a Turtle Watch Program which studies sea turtle populations, and are engaged in the Belize Coral Reef Watch Program (part of the Meso-American Coral Reef Watch Program and is an “Early Warning Alert System” for coral bleaching. There is also the Lionfish Project where ECOMAR, the Belize Fisheries Department and other partners work with stakeholders in Belize to manage the invasive lionfish.

Earthwatch Institute

USA

EarthWatch is an international non-profit that supports scientific field research by offering volunteers the opportunity to join research teams around the world. This unique model is creating a systematic change in how the public views science and its role in environmental sustainability.

East Africa Whale Shark Trust

Kenya

The East African Whale Shark Trust is a grass roots project dedicated to marine conservation in general and whale shark conservation in particular. Based on Diani beach the EAWST was founded in response to the increase in the whale shark population along the Kenyan coast as well as increased interest from the tourist sector. The increase in the number of whale sharks along the Kenyan coast has meant they have become a target. All that is required by international law is that whale shark trade be monitored. The EAWST provides a research centre for collecting and analysing data on the local whale shark population, its habits and movements. The Trust works with other regional organisations, the long term goal being to increase protection and promote the conservation of the biggest fish in the ocean.

EcoOcean

Israel

EcoOcean is a non-profit Israeli organization established by the Weil family and a group of leading scientists and environmentalists in 2002. The organization’s stated mission is 'to empower people to care for the marine and coastal environment of Israel and the region'. This is achieved via research, education and civic engagement. They promote protection of the marine environment, so that this will become a 'high priority amongst the general public and policy makers in Israel'. Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants

Canada

The primary goal of Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants is to inspire the next generation of scientists and explorers. They do this by bringing those on the frontlines of science, exploration, adventure and conservation, live into classrooms through virtual guest speakers and field trips. Since September 2015, they have hosted 3,500 live events, connecting over a million students to scientists and explorers in 96 countries, ‘… free for classrooms everywhere!’ The secondary purpose of Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants is to fund innovative research, conservation, expeditions, etc. Their partners provide lessons and virtual field trips for classrooms and in exchange receive donations to their organizations to carry out research, conservation and expedition activities.
