Pro Delphinus
Peru
A Peruvian organization that conducts research and conservation projects in marine species and their interactions with local fisheries, Pro Delphinus is dedicated to the conservation of threatened and endangered marine fauna. Actively involved in a campaign to legally ban the take and consumption of dolphins in Peru. The focus of their research is currently on endangered species, including sea turtles, marine otters, cetaceans, seabirds and sharks, and their protection.
Project Manaia
Austria
Though based in Austria, Project Manaia conducts marine research at sea, arranging expeditions and providing a floating research platform for scientists, students, and ocean lovers alike. After a couple of successful years in the Mergui Archipelago in Myanmar, they turned their focus to the Mediterranean Sea where they sourced a 43-foot Sailboat for research. Their projects include plastic pollution, invasive species and seagrass – they have created an invasive species map and seagrass map to detect how far invasive species in the Mediterranean spread and where the seagrass meadows are disappearing. Supporting citizen science, they encourage the public to contribute with their sightings.
Project Seagrass
UK
Project Seagrass is an marine conservation charity advancing the conservation of seagrass through education, influence, research and action. The organization is dedicated to ensuring that seagrass meadows are protected globally, for the biodiversity and people that depend on them, directly or indirectly.
Project Seahorse
Canada and UK
Project Seahorse is a marine conservation organization committed to the conservation and sustainable use of coastal marine ecosystems in general, and seahorses in particular. It is an international and interdisciplinary organization comprised of biologists, development specialists, and other professionals committed to conserving and managing seahorses, their relatives and habitats, through research, education, empowering communities, establishing marine-protected areas, managing subsistence fisheries, restructuring international trade, redressing habitat loss. Their seahorse projects are located in: Australia, China, Malaysia, Philippines, Portugal, Senegal, South Africa, Thailand, USA and Vietnam. On their website one can access their citizen science tool called iSeahorse when one can report sightings of seahorses.
Projeto Chelonia Mydas
Brazil
Projeto Chelonia mydas monitors the pollutants' impact on Brazilian sea-turtles. Under the auspices of Instituto Marcus Daniel (IMD), the project studies the processes and the occurrence of sea-turtle's diseases in environments affected by men, with the aim of understanding the occurrence of diseases in the sea-turtle populations in Brazil. Projeto Chelonia mydas' activities involve studies on sea-turtle's ecology, ecotoxicology, epidemiology, pathology, hematology, plasma biochemistry, and immunology.
Raggy Charters
South Africa
Raggy Charters offers guided tours, led by conservationist, wildlife educator and marine safari specialist Lloyd Edwards, to see whales, dolphins, seals, sharks, penguins, and other marine in Algoa Bay. In addition to the marine education element, using funds generated by the ecotours, they run a number of conservation and research projects through the Baywatch Marine Conservation Project. These include advocating on behalf of and protecting the penguin colonies on St Croix Island and sharks in Algoa Bay, reducing plastic pollution via beach cleanups and educating on the subject, and educating the locals youth in particular on the importance of marine life. Cetaceans are another focus, specifically humpback whales, with the Southern Hemisphere Humpback Whales Migration Routes of particular interest, working with the World Cetacean Alliance. Raggy Charters' Welcoming the Whales to Algoa Bay Festival is an annual event, in 2021 in its fourth year, with the whale festival concept expanding along the coastline of South Africa.
Red Sea Environmental Centre
Egypt
The RSEC is an NGO that carries out coral reef analysis and conservation in the Pink Sea. Working out of Dahab, a Bedouin city, it is possible to dive and learn to free dive in its 90-metre sinkhole referred to as on the Blue Gap. RSEC run marine biology programs, in addition to coaching “ecodivers” in reef surveying and monitoring methods to assist in scientific research. RSEC Dahab offers courses, lectures and conservation volunteering about Red Sea Coral Reefs
Red Sea Research Centre (KAUST)
Saudi Arabia
A research facility of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), the Red Sea Research Center works to study the Red Sea with state-of-the-art facilities and world-class researchers. RSRC undertakes a wide variety of research to formulate a comprehensive understanding of the Red Sea's rich ecology, crucial to ensure sustainable use and conservation of its natural resources.
Reef Conservation Mauritius
Mauritius
Reef Conservation Mauritius is dedicated to the conservation and the restoration of the marine environment of Mauritius. through the implementation and management of conservation, research, education and sensitization projects. It employs professional staff to implement and manage projects and train volunteer divers and to participate in ecosystem monitoring and other activities.
Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF)
USA
Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) is an international marine conservation organization that implements hands-on programs to involve local communities in conservation-focused activities. REEF is based in Key Largo, Florida, with remote staff in Illinois, California, and Washington. Its mission is to protect biodiversity and ocean life by actively engaging and inspiring the public through citizen science, education, and partnerships with the scientific community.

Roatan Marine Park
Honduras
RMP was started by a group of concerned divers and conservationists to protect Roatan’s reefs and ecosystems. They are 'dedicated to the conservation of Roatan’s protected marine and coastal area including all of its flora, fauna, physical and biological characteristics and phenomena, and historical and cultural resources'. They achieve this by a number of practical initiatives, including conducting research into marine species such as sharks, turtles and corals while involving the public in citizen science projects, by creating marine infrastructures so as to minimize damage to reefs such as moorings management, by educating via outreach programmes to local communities and divers, amongst others. In addition, they have a lionfish eradication programme.
