STENAPA

St Eustacius

STENAPA is the St. Eustatius National Parks Foundation, which manages The Quill and Boven National Park, St. Eustatius National Marine Park and the Miriam C. Schmidt Botanical Garden. Three National Park areas protect the high biodiversity and unique tropical ecosystems present on both land and sea and the total protected area covers 33km2 - almost twice the size of the island of St Eustatius. Their purpose is to protect diverse habitats on and around the island. Numerous endangered or critically endangered species are protected through active research and monitoring programmes, including three species of sea turtles.

STINAPA

Bonaire

STINAPA Bonaire is a non-governmental, not for profit foundation commissioned by the island government to manage the two protected areas of Bonaire: the Bonaire National Marine Park (BNMP) and the Washington Slagbaai National Park (WSNP). The organization is dedicated to the conservation of Bonaire ’s natural and historical heritage through the sustainable use of its resources. Bonaire has a long history of marine conservation, going way back to the early 1960', In 1970 Bonaire Marine Park was declared, which was before many (most?) countries were attuned to marine conservation, let alone marine protected areas. The results are self evident.

SWAN Ireland

Ireland

SWAN Ireland is a network of 24 of Ireland’s leading local & national environmental groups, working together to protect Ireland’s rivers, lakes, bays, seas & groundwater. The threats include chemicals & pollutants, domestic, business, leisure & development activities all of which have impacts on the water environment. SWAN is a network of Ireland’s leading environmental organisations working to ensure that new Water Framework Directive water management plans provide the protection needed so that the wildlife, amenity and economic values are not negatively impacted.

Saba Conservation Foundation

Saba

The Saba Conservation Foundation (SCF) is a non governmental organization established in 1987 to preserve and manage Saba's natural and cultural heritage. The mission of SCF is "To commit to the preservation and enhancement of the marine and terrestrial environment of the island of Saba through education,scientific research, monitoring and enforcement."

San Diego Coastkeeper

USA

A conservation organisation which restores fishable, swimmable and drinkable waters in San Diego County, through research, and gathering proper data, San Diego Coastkeeper has been making a positive impact in their community since establishing in 1995. With a vision of a cleaner ocean, this grassroots organization is committed to 'doing the necessary leg work to ensure a future filled with safe Ocean water for Marine animals, and human beings.'

Sargasso Sea Commission

USA

Sargasso Sea Commission works to 'encourage and facilitate voluntary collaboration toward the conservation of the Sargasso Sea'. Previously the Sargasso Sea Alliance.

Save Andaman Network

Thailand

SAN is committed to conserving the unique environment and biodiversity along Thailand’s Andaman coastline. They promote sustainable marine resource management, build community capacity, raise awareness towards coastal conservation efforts and develop alternative economic opportunities to fisheries-dependent communities. Their current projects include a seagrass programme (part of the Seagrass Ecosystem Services Project), waste reduction and addressing marine litter issues, ecosystem management development, amongst others.

Save Our Marine Life

Australia

Save Our Marine Life is an environmental advocacy alliance working to protect and secure Australia's marine life. It is a collaboration of 29 non-profit conservation organisations, both Australian and international. SOML was initially founded in 2008 to raise awareness of the need for the Australian Government to establish a network of large marine sanctuaries in the country's South West marine region. Other campaigns cover seismic blasting, oil drilling, keeping supertrawlers out of Australian waters, and further afield, a marine park in the Antarctic.

Save the Med Foundation

Spain

Involved in the Balearic islands off mainland Spain, Save the Med arranges scientific expeditions, ocean clean-up of plastic pollution, education, amongst other activities, via a team of experienced marine scientists and divers who work closely with local authorities and stakeholders. They have created an effectively managed network of Marine Protected Areas around the Balearic Islands, allowing marine ecosystems to recover and thrive together with prospering local communities and industries.

Save the Waves Coalition

USA, International

Save The Waves protects coastal ecosystems around the world in partnership with local communities, utilizing a unique combination of protected areas, economics, and direct action. Save The Waves’ vision is a world where waves and coastlines are cherished and protected, and surfing provides a proactive vehicle for long-term coastal conservation. Countries where they have effectively established or are campaigning for surf protected areas include: USA, Ireland, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Australia, Portugal, Maldives, Brazil and Costa Rica.

SaveNature.org

USA

SaveNature.org works to protect coral reefs through its 'Adopt a Reef Program' to raise funds for the conservation of threatened and endangered coral reefs and their surrounding marine ecosystems around the world; specific reefs: Palau in Micronesia, and Parque Nacional Del Este in Dominican Republic. Their Adopt a Reef program is only one aspect of their work which covers the preservation of fragile ecosystems in general through creating awareness via education and direct participation projects. They work closely with schools, universities, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, natural history museums, and science centers worldwide, as well as corporations and businesses, to achieve their aim of protecting the diversity of life in fragile ecosystems.

Sciaena : Ocean. Conservation. Awareness

Portugal

Sciena works to conceive, implement and support marine environmental projects, promotes the sustainable use of coastal and marine resources, and advocates for the integrated development of associated communities. They lobby nationally and internationally to promote a scientific approach to marine environmental protection.
