For specific species, such as Turtles, Cetaceans, or Corals, and for specialised areas, such as Marine Pollution or Marine Research, go to the specific categories on the Conservation base page.
Ree.ph
Philippines
REE.PH operates under the corporate entity of the Coral Triangle Conservancy Inc., with the objective 'to establish networks of No-Take, Enforced, Old, Large, Isolated (NEOLI) marine sanctuaries, to expand public awareness of unsustainable commercial fishing practices, and to rehabilitate coral reefs that have been destroyed by a combination of destructive human activities.' This includes fish and coral nurseries that increase food supply and insure biodiversity, and sustainable initiatives involving all the stakeholders including local communities and scientists. The marine sanctuaries 'Lifeboat Projects' are strategically located around the Philippines.
Reef Conservation International
Belize
ReefCI is a non-profit marine conservation organizations Belize, working on protecting coral reefs and oceans since 2006. This includes engaging volunteers and all interested parties in taking an active role in directly protecting and conserving ocean ecosystems.
Reef Conservation Mauritius
Mauritius
Reef Conservation Mauritius is dedicated to the conservation and the restoration of the marine environment of Mauritius. through the implementation and management of conservation, research, education and sensitization projects. It employs professional staff to implement and manage projects and train volunteer divers and to participate in ecosystem monitoring and other activities.
Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF)
USA
Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) is an international marine conservation organization that implements hands-on programs to involve local communities in conservation-focused activities. REEF is based in Key Largo, Florida, with remote staff in Illinois, California, and Washington. Its mission is to protect biodiversity and ocean life by actively engaging and inspiring the public through citizen science, education, and partnerships with the scientific community.
REEF's work focuses on four main projects: the Volunteer Fish Survey Project, the Grouper Moon Project, the Invasive Species Program, and the Explorers Education Program. REEF's marine conservation and citizen science programs currently operate in the coastal areas of North and Central America, the Caribbean, Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean, Hawaii, the South and Indo-west Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Red Sea.
Reef Resilience Network
USA
The Reef Resilience Network 'connects marine managers with resources, experts, peers, and skill-building opportunities to improve restoration and accelerate conservation of coral reefs and reef fisheries around the world'. The aim is to build the capacity of managers to effectively manage, protect and restore marine parks. The Nature Conservancy co-ordinates the 2,000-member Network, which includes a multi-faceted group of over 100 global experts in coral reefs, fisheries, climate change, communication, amongst others.
Reef-World Foundation
UK, Philippines
The Reef-World Foundation supports governments and communities internationally in sustainable consumption and production of coastal resources and marine life. Their main project Green Fins (in partnership with UN Environment Programme) focuses on driving environmentally friendly SCUBA diving and snorkelling practices across the industry globally. By inspiring and empowering the community of divers, snorkellers and related businesses, their mission is to achieve conservation awareness on the ground and preserve coral reefs around the world. Their original mission was introducing basic marine ecology to fishing villages and local communities in Thailand from 1999.
Roatan Marine Park
Honduras
RMP was started by a group of concerned divers and conservationists to protect Roatan’s reefs and ecosystems. They are 'dedicated to the conservation of Roatan’s protected marine and coastal area including all of its flora, fauna, physical and biological characteristics and phenomena, and historical and cultural resources'. They achieve this by a number of practical initiatives, including conducting research into marine species such as sharks, turtles and corals while involving the public in citizen science projects, by creating marine infrastructures so as to minimize damage to reefs such as moorings management, by educating via outreach programmes to local communities and divers, amongst others. In addition, they have a lionfish eradication programme.
SANCET
Montenegro
SANCET is a stranding network, the first of its kind in the Southern Adriatic Region of the Mediterranean. They collect, coordinate, and collaborate stranding data for the scientific efforts of all parties involved. This stranding network has been created by the researchers and volunteers of Montenegro Dolphin Research (MDR) under the supervision of DMAD (Marine Mammals Research Association). The project plans a database of stranding information, with citizen science involvement in reporting strandings.
