Description

Oceana has been in Belize since 2009 advocating sustainable marine policies, including combatting problems caused by damaging fishing methods and gear, plastic pollution and offshore drilling in Belize's waters which would cause damage to vital marine ecosystems. In 2017 the country unanimously passed a bill imposing an indefinite moratorium on oil drilling in Belize's marine territory in order to protect their barrier reef. Oceans remains committed to upholding that moratorium.
